Rendered in earthy tones of rust-red, the work depicts a gaunt, skeletal figure, likely a father, holding a limp child close to his chest. The emaciated bodies drawn in dense, textural lines evoke the recurring themes of famine, loss and human strength that define Hore’s practice. The very simplicity of the work deepens the horrors of man-made devastations and the repercussions of the famine that ravaged Bengal.
